Lullabye and goodnight....

For as long as I have known them, both Chloe and Sam have needed music playing in their rooms in order to fall asleep. Whether it's a CD or me singing, they both take comfort in some sort of melody while they drift off to sleep.

The rotation process is pretty simple: once a song hits as a goodnight tune, it usually remains for at least a couple of months (and in the case of Sam and I Don't Want to Live on the Moon, for well over a year!)

Chloe likes to take my recommendations as far the selection process goes, and as a result she is upstairs right now listening to Shelter, by Lone Justice. Other past favourites have included Superman (It's Not Easy), by Five for Fighting, and I Miss You, by Miley Cyrus (though she came to this one on her own).

Sam usually won't listen to the CD version of a song unless I've introduced on the nights previous by singing it to him first. This was true of Words, by the Bee Gees, and Matthew, by John Denver, which is his current lullabye of choice.

I love the fact that my kids love music as much as I do, and I love even more the fact that they let me introduce them to a bunch of eclectic music and that they don't shy away from trying a new song out. And I just love my kids.

NOTE: For whatever reason, Matthew always makes me cry. I don't know why...I think we used to have an 8-track tape with it on when I was a kid (maybe a live version?), so maybe it just makes me nostalgic for days gone by...

...or maybe I'm just a big weiner. You be the judge.

Anyway, here's the kids:
