Random summer goodness...

As I'm sure you've guessed by the lack of posts for the month of August, a black hole opened up and swallowed the last four weeks of summer. Stuff did happen, I promise, it just had to simmer a while before it was ready for posting. By way of a little taster of the last half of our summer, I present some random Sammy moments from August 2008:

Sam took a real interest in cooking this summer. Hardly a supper time went by without him dragging a chair over to the counter to help with whatever was being whipped-up. Breading chicken strips with eggs, flour and crumbs seems to have been his favourite. The accompanying picture is a record of one of our attempts to make egg McMuffins. They were glorious in all of their greasy goodness. And, yes, I know I look as if I had been roughed-up in a drunken bar fight a few moments before this picture was taken. Rest assured friends, I felt pretty on the inside.

For his birthday earlier in the year, Sam received a pretty cool gift. It was a collection of five or six simple scientific experiments that came complete with everything one would need to make a super bouncer or some jelly crystals. On the day these pictures were taken, we decided to tackle the Chain Polymer Gummy Worm experiment. Basically the experiment consisted of mixing up a blue solution in a squeeze bottle and squirting it into a test tube filled with a different, clear chemical. The result was a large number of slimey blue worms and round bb's.

The test tubes themselves were actually 2L pop bottles that hadn't been heated and blown up to full size. Each experiment came with detailed instructions and a sheet explaining the science behind each project. Sam wasn't extremely interested in how these things were accomplished, but he sure enjoyed the results. On the whole a very cool present.

Stay tuned for more time displaced posts, including some random Chloe activities and some general family doings from the very few trips we made away from home this summer.

But, now it's late and I'm going to bed. Goodnight.
